Obituary: Andrew Shane Griffin, 18, of Horatio

Andrew Shane Griffin entered this world on Feb. 23, 1999, and made his way to Heaven on Oct. 21, 2017. Drew leaves to cherish his memory his parents, Shane and Sandra Griffin; a sister and brother-in-law, Brooke and Blake Toye. His aunts, uncles and cousins: Ginger and Summer Morgan; Billy, Christy and Josie Morris and her son, Race Thompson; Dennis, Logan and Mykenzie Jones; Danny, Natalie and Fallon Jones. His grandparents: Calvin and Kathy Griffin of Horatio, Ark., and Jackie and Jo Ann Jones of Dierks, Ark.

Drew was working with Artex Electric of Texarkana, Ark., in the National Electrical Apprentice Program associated with UA Cossatot to proceed his career as a Journeyman Electrician.

He was 2017 graduate from Horatio High School. Drew was a member of the 2016 Horatio Lion 3A State Baseball Championship Team where he assisted his team as the starting short stop and one of the team’s pitchers.

Drew spent his childhood in the woods and in the water with his Dad, Papaws and buddies chasing bucks, ducks and big ole flatheads. He was raised with a passion for the outdoors and learned many lessons in Pond Creek and on the banks of Little River and Saline River.

He respected his elders, was a quiet, kind-hearted, humble young man who had a vision he told to only a few. Drew had a great passion for baseball, hunting, fishing and mostly comradery for his friends and his sister.

Visitation was held on Friday, Oct. 27, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen, Ark. A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, Oct. 28, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Horatio Baptist Church with Bro. Paul Hillis officiating. He will be laid to rest in Old Center Cemetery in Central Community of Horatio, Ark., under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Drew’s Forever Fund at Horatio State Bank.
