Obituary: Harold R. Jones, 84, of Mount Ida

Harold R. Jones, age 84, of Mount Ida, AR, passed away October 7, 2017 at his home. He was born October 27, 1932 in Oklahoma City, OK to the late Fent and Ethel Furr Jones. Mr. Jones is preceded in death by his parents, two

brothers, Donald Jones and Gail Jones, and two sisters, Earlene Jones and Chloetta Handley.

Harold went into the Navy right after high school. He was an avid John Wayne, country music, and western movie fan. He enjoyed collecting memorabilia. He would visit grave sites of country music singers and movie stars and was fond of riding his motorcycle; he rode over 3,500 miles across the country. Once ran into Anthony Quinn and spent the afternoon talking with him. The highlight of Harold’s life was when he was invited to John Wayne’s house and met him in person. He lived alone with his two cats but fed all the wildlife- deer, raccoons and possums. He was a civil engineer at Travis Air Force Base for over 30 years.

He is survived by three step-sons, Melvin Reuss of San Antonio, TX, Roy Reuss of Azle, TX, and James Reuss of Green Valley, AZ, cousins, Mary Doucet and Ina Long, best buddy Merrie Davis, and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Arrangements were made under the direction of Thornton Funeral Home of Mount Ida, AR.
