Born to William Otis and Grace L. Simpson on September 22, 1932, Willie ‘Gene’ Simpson passed on to our Lord and Savior on May 30, 2017. Gene was born in Billstown. He graduated from Delight High School and married Wanda J. Blanchard.

Gene served in the US Army before settling in Houston. where he became a tradesman in multiple skills and worked at various companies prior to his retirement. Due to his proficiency in mechanics and qualified vibration analytics, he was elected a member of the International Maintenance Institute and served as a member of the advisory committee of San Jacinto College as an instructor in millwright technology.

A kind man with a generous heart and positive spirit who was admired by all, Gene was a beloved father, friend and role model to his three children from his marriage to Wanda Simpson.

He is survived by his son, Larry G. Simpson (spouse Laurie), residing in New Braunfels, Texas; and two daughters, Teresa K. Crisp (spouse Steve) residing in Satsuma, AL; and Cheryl R. Clede residing in Shreveport, LA. Gene had eight grandchildren: Tara Lackey, William ‘Steven’ Simpson, Luke Simpson, Chasity Denney, Kristine Kyle, Stephen Crisp, Rachel Allen and Tommy ‘Trey’ Clede as well as fifteen great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.

At the time of his passing, Gene was married to and is survived by Mary Simpson, his brother, Elvin Dean Simpson, and sister, Dessa Fenter. Gene is preceded in death by Wanda J. Simpson, newborn baby brother, sisters Veda Simpson, Roberta Blanchard and Jo Rita Gremillion.

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Thursday, June 8 at the Latimer Funeral Home Chapel in Murfreesboro.

Funeral services will be 10 a.m., Friday, June 9, at the Latimer Funeral Home Chapel in Murfreesboro, with burial to follow in Delight Cemetery.
