Obituary: Martha Elaine Funderburk; Delight

Martha Elaine Funderburk, age 72, of Delight, joined the angels on Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, after a 3½ years battle with cancer.
She was born on May 28, 1944 in the Pisgah community of Pike County, the daughter of Jack Slatton and Hazel Lucille Parks Slatton. On Oct. 20, 1972, she was married to Vearl Funderburk. She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Nicole Funderburk; her parents; and her brother, Leon Slatton.

She was a Christian in her faith. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 54 years with her membership presently at the Glenwood Chapter #396. She was a retired educator having taught in school districts in Pine Bluff, Hampton, Hope, Delight and 26 years at the University of Arkansas Community College at Hope. She loved sports, and as a youngster, could name all of the main baseball players in the American League and National League. She liked reading, fishing, camping and sewing. She really enjoyed sewing baby bibs and baby quilts as gifts to friends.

She is survived by her husband, Vearl Funderburk of Delight; her son, Kevin Funderburk of Delight; her sister and brother-in-law, Valjean and Bill Echols of Hope; her nephew, Mark Slatton of Petal, Miss.; two great-nieces; and five great-great nieces and nephews.
Services were at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Wallace Alexander officiating.
Visitation was Thursday, 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Interment was in Mount Joy Cemetery.
