The Mineral Springs Hornets closed out their season at 3-7, Thursday night, with a come-from-behind win over the Spring Hill Bears.

Touchdowns were spread among five Hornets in the 32-21 win at the Hempstead County school. TD scorers included Ricky Walker, Deshawn Compton, Octavian Ceasar, Kevonte Esters and Fred Robinson. Of that group, only Esters and Robinson are seniors. The only other senior on the team this year was Chase Murphy.

The Hornets started out from behind as the Bears scored on their opening possession and added the extra point.

Mineral Springs tallied after recovering a Bear fumble at midfield. Ceasar scored on a 42-yard quarter keeper, but the PAT was blocked.

In the second quarter the Hornets scored on a 15-yard aerial from Ceasar to Robinson. Walker’s PAT dash was good giving the Hornets a 14-7 lead.

Later in the quarter Spring Hill knotted the score at 14 each, but on an improbable fourth-and-20 yard play, Ceasar connected with Esters for a score. At halftime the score was 20-14 for the Hornets.

There was no scoring in the third quarter, but Spring Hill seized a 21-20 lead early in the fourth quarter.

“Then we started tackling,” Coach Jason Burns said.

The Hornets scored on a 76-yard scamper by Compton, and a 11-yard run by Walker made the final margin 32-21.

Leading rushers for MS were Walker, 14/33; Compton 13/137; and Ceasar, 5/48.

Ceasar completed 7 of 18 passes for 107 yards and two touchdowns.

Antonio Alexander was the leading tackler with 12, followed by Peyton Haddan with 7. Haddan also had a blocked punt. Soph Rayshawn sanders contributed an interception.
