Obituary: Grover H. Finney; Oak Creek Lake

Grover H. Finney, of Oak Creek Lake, entered into his heavenly-Divine home on Wednesday, October 19, 2016. Memorial services were held on Saturday, October 22, 2016 at Shaffer Funeral Home’s Sherwood Way Chapel. His final resting place will be at College Hill Cemetery in Pike County, Murfreesboro, AR. with services Monday, October 24, 2016. Services are under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.

Grover entered his mortal life July 08, 1935, 81 years ago to Jesse Vernon & Ruby Ester Laurent Finney. Grover, was born at the family property in Billstown, Pike County; Arkansas. The Finney’s were sharecropper’s, around the country and other areas to harvest cotton and work along side family members, which consisted of the Stone, Campbell Family. He left home at the early age of 14, to enter the work environment, leaving education in the 8th grade. His motto was to work hard and give all. He drove trucks, operated heavy equipment, hiding his disabled eyesight.

On September 01, 1952, he married Waltrene (Rena) Orr, and began a family adventure in Little Rock, AR.

At the young age of 19, Grover entered into a business adventure with Irish Pipe Coating Company, based in Shreveport, LA. This 1954 adventure foundation began a relationship with coating pioneer L.B. “Bert” Irish. Irish, expanded his operations into the Little Rock, AR market securing a 40+year relationship. Their accomplishment led to, developing a standard for external pipe coatings that changed the industry and safety to the general public. So many others contributed to this process – with all being the Pioneers of changing the coating market to date. NAPCA (National Association of Pipe Coating Applicators), was discussed with plans to developing standards and procedures to the application from 1955 to 1964, NAPCA, was formed in 1965. This group stimulated many other societies, “NACE, SPE, API”. All oil & gas affiliated groups to adopt the NAPCA process.

Upon his completion in the plant application of various coatings and application methods, he joined forces with “El Paso Natural Gas”, (Chief Inspector) to insure its external coating integrity program to meet all standards required by DOT, (department of transportation), across the mainland 48 states. He also owned and operated a small business of “Industrial Fabrics Company” associated to industrial fabrics to assure the quality of all in field coating application.

Grover entered into his next married life with Brenda Joyce Mauldin on February 08, 1996. With this union commencing at Oak Creek Lake (Coke County) Bronte, TX to his final days at this residence.

What a blessing to this Family, the true support- care giver, and to our family in taking care of his wishes.

His latter years were spent on OakCreek Lake and spending time on his farm West of Bronte, TX, growing hay. This was over some 25 years of devoting himself to the farming life style. He developed a love for auctions and buying and selling equipment on the Bronte farm. He enjoyed Fishing, Hunting of all types outdoor activities, and spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren that special touch to his heart on the farm.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Vernon & Ruby Ester (Laurent) Finney; brother and sister-in- law, Boyd Ray & Helen Perry Finney; first wife, Walterene “Rena” Orr Finney; sister-in-law, Beatrice Orr Reynolds; brother-in-law, William Grady Orr; grandson, Morgan Scott Finney. Grover is survived by his wife, Brenda Mauldin Finney of Oak Creek Lake-Blackwell, TX; brother, Glen Maurice Finney of Malvern, AR.; sister and brother- in-law, Jeanice Finney Mchan & Fernando Villerrela of West Covina, CA., Jesse L. and Tona L. Finney, Odessa, TX., Richard G. and Rhelda Finney, New Braunsfel, TX., Holly Claudette Heard, Odessa, TX., Travis Luke and Becky Finney, San Angelo, TX.; grandchildren, Travis Glenn and Spring Finney, Seguin, TX., Marcus D. and Jennifer M. Finney, Lake Jackson, TX., Krystal and Joe Lee, Seguin, TX., Christopher Lorenz, Odessa, TX., Shelia and Blake McDonald, Odessa, TX.; eight great grandchildren; numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.
