Obituary: Clovis “Smokey” Price; Mount Ida

Clovis “Smokey” Price, age 75, of Mount Ida, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2016.

He was born on July 30, 1941 at Hopper, the son of Burnett Reece Price and Ella Hazel Miller Price. On November 24, 1960, he was married to Alice Franklin Price who preceded him in death on May 15, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his father, and his brother, Jerry Price.

Clovis was a lifetime member of the Hopper Church of Christ. He retired from the U.S. Forest Service after 36 years of service. Through the years, his duties included Job Corp, Park Ranger, timber management, sales, and as Smokey the Bear. He enjoyed fishing Lake Ouachita and the South Fork; hunting at the Hopper Deer Camp at Alpine; and running his dogs at the fox pen with Wendell Adams, Jr. and Paul Phillips. Clovis was an avid storyteller with many stories told under the big oak tree at the church.

He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Penny Price of Magnet Cove and Michael and Catherine Price of Mount Ida; his mother, Ella Price of Hopper; his sister, Mary Hollifield of Hopper; two brothers, Bruce Price of Hopper and James Doyle Price of Hot Springs; four grandchildren, Joseph Price, Jeane Harrison, Joshua Price and Nicole Price; six great-grandchildren, Sean Reeves, Logan Reeves, Ella Reeves, Elizabeth Harrison, Jonah Harrison and Lukas Harrison; and his great-granddaughter on the way, Olivia Lynn Price.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 5, 2016, in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Harold Vaughn and Ed Coffman officiating.

Interment was in Jones Cemetery in Amity.

Pallbearers were Neal Price, John Hollifield, Jesse Hollifield, Bubba Baker, Russell Watts, and Danny Watts.

Honorary pallbearers were Olan Wilson, Kenny Thomas, Pete Mitchell, Tracy Deaton, and the nurses and staffs of Montgomery County Nursing Home and CHI St. Vincent.
