Joyce B. Haggard, age 85, of Amity, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016.

She was born on June 25, 1931 at Center Ridge, the daughter of the late Milus and Ethel Spurlin Bean. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Floyd Bean and J. C. Bean; and her son-in-law, Mike Chancellor.

Joyce was a member of the Amity United Methodist Church where she previously served as youth director. She was never one to sit at home and was never known to meet a stranger. She had many “titles” through the years, ranging from “beautician” to “jeweler” to an “entrepreneur”. Her endeavors included owning the first dress shop in Amity, a pizza restaurant and lastly, the Lux Café. She was also a Girl Scout Brownie den mother and loved to dance. She fed the elderly and enjoyed visiting with shut-ins. “Nanny” enjoyed watching her grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in their many activities, cooking and baking her famous pies, watching the ponies run, yelling for the Razorbacks and calling the Hogs, and her annual birthday trips with her girls. She was known to always be dressed in her freshly ironed clothes, her impeccably applied lipstick and perfectly styled hair.

Joyce was loved by everyone who met her, and she centered her life around her family. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Brenda and Gary Doster, Rhonda and Dempsey Floyd and Lona Chancellor. Her grandchildren were the love of her life and include Laura and Jerry Taylor, Robert and Erica Doster, Dana and Mike McClure, Brian and Dee Wright, Dree and Michael Boggs, Kenya Robbins and Kayla Chancellor; her great-grandchildren, Slayton and Brayden Taylor, Brennan and Gabe Doster and Lainey Morrison; her sister-in-law, Betty Bean; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Joyce had a favorite nephew and his wife, Mike and Marcia Haggard and her favorite chosen daughter and husband, Vickie and Wayne Wheeler. Although she loved her family unconditionally, Lona’s dog, Kaos, was her pride and joy.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 14, 2016 in the Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel, Glenwood, with Bro. John McAnally officiating.
