Murfreesboro takes out fellow Rattlers 34-6

2rattlerweb-resizedThe Murfreesboro Rattler offense collected 461 yards while the defense threw a three-quarter shutout Friday to secure a 34-6 win over the visiting Magazine Rattlers.

The local Rattlers were led on offense by senior running back Cameron Snowden, who rushed 23 times for 219 yards and two touchdowns. Junior Tyler Tomlinson added to the offense total with 15 carries for 68 yards and one TD. Senior quarterback hit 10 of 16 passes for 96 yards and also rushed six times for 24 yards and two TDs.

Junior J.C. Motley had one run for 48 yards and also led the Murfreesboro receivers with six receptions for 72 yards. Senior receiver Troy Stone also had three catches for 24 yards.

Magazine was limited to a total of 186 yards with 88 coming on the ground and 98 via the pass.

Murfreesboro’s defense was steered by senior linebacker Chris French who got in on 11 tackles. Motley, Stone, Snowden and juniors Tomlinson, Zayne Flaherty, Jarrett Faulkner and Alec Pettigrew also contributed to the shutdown of the Magazine offense along with seniors Wyatt Van Camp and Tyler Cox.

The local Rattlers were the first to light up Rattler Stadium’s new scoreboard in the first quarter. Snowden capped the team’s opening drive from one yard out for a 6-0 lead. Murfreesboro added six more points in the first quarter when Tomlinson darted in from five yards out to put the home team up 12-0.

Magazine’s only score of the night came in the first quarter. QB Trevor Blake hit Matthew Smith with a 66-yard TD pass but, like the home Rattlers, could not convert the two-point play.

Murfreesboro put up six more points in the second quarter when Roberts hit the end zone from four yards out. The PAT play again failed but the home Rattlers held an 18-6 lead at the half.

Murfreesboro added to their lead in the third quarter when Snowden scored from 40 yards out and Roberts hit Stone for the two-point pass.

Murfreesboro’s final score of the night came in the fourth quarter with Roberts rushed in from one yard out and then hit Snowden for the two-point play that set the final score at 34-6.

Magazine’s offense was led by QB Blake, who carried 14 times for 60 yards. Blake also hit four of 13 passes for 98 yards and one TD to Smith in the first quarter.
