ROSBORO — Centerpoint rolled up 393 yards total offense Friday thumping Mineral Springs by 42-8 in a non-conference game.

The Knights held the Hornets to 148 total yards on 36 plays.

Hornet soph Tahji Beal prevented a shutout gaining 41 yards of the Hornet’s total rushing yardage of 99. With 8:20 left in the game, he skirted around the defensive end and outran the Knight secondary to the end zone.

Hornet QB Octavian Ceaser successfully threw the PAT effort.

Neither team could move the  ball with consistency for most of the first quarter, but then the Knights began rolling on their way to a 28-0 lead at halftime.

A Centerpoint touchdown in the third quarter enacted the ‘mercy rule’ before Beal’s score avoided a shutout. Beal led Hornet rushing with 54 yards on three carries including his touchdown jaunt. DeShawn Compton gained 47 yards on six carries.

Raheem Brown led Hornet defensemen with five tackles.

The Hornets open conference play Friday, visiting the defending champion Mount Ida Lions. Kickoff is at 7.
