LITTLE ROCK – The Nashville Scrapperettes went undefeated last week during team camp at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock.

The Scrapperettes compiled a record of 8-0 during the camp, including victories over West Memphis and defending Class 4A state champion Riverview.

By going undefeated, the Scrapperettes reached a milestone, according to Coach Ron Alexander.

“We’ve not gone undefeated before at a team camp,” Alexander said. “We made it to the semifinals one time” during a tournament format at a Missouri camp.

UALR was “a good camp. It was good for the girls. We developed more team camaraderie. We have an idea of who plays what.”

The Scrapperettes showed “great hustle. The effort on defense was one of our strengths. We played together. We need to take care of the ball, block out and rebound.

Madi Miller makes a free throw late in the Scrapperettes’ 31-28 victory over Riverview. The Scrapperettes wrapped up their summer by going undefeated at the UALR camp.

Scores from the camp include the following:

Monday – Nashville 31, Conway Blue 25; Nashville 25, Eureka Springs 9; Nashville 27, McGehee 14.

Tuesday – Nashville 37, Caddo 19; Nashville 40, Dardanelle 22; Nashville 31, Riverview 28.

Wednesday – Nashville 36, RV Heat 24; Nashville 37, West Memphis 31.

“Riverview was the best game,” Alexander said. The Scrapperettes led the defending state champs by as many as 6 points in the second half before Riverview narrowed the gap late and briefly took the lead.

Team defense and free throw shooting by Erika Hernandez, Madi Miller and Kendall Kirchhoff put the Scrapperettes back on top and sealed the win.

“It was a really good camp for the girls,” Alexander said. “We got some games under our belt and ended the summer on a high note.”

The Scrapperettes competed in camps at UALR and Ouachita Baptist University, along with hosting camps on three consecutive Thursdays in July. Their only losses came against Pulaski Academy at OBU and Kirby at Nashville.

The team is off this week before returning to the court when school starts in the Nashville district  next week.
