Martha Godwin passed away Aug. 26, 2016 in Nashville, Ark.
She was born on Sept. 23, 1912 in Smetana, Texas, to Anton and Annie Merka. She was raised in Bryan, Texas, where she spent most of her life. She moved to Arkansas in her later years to live with her son, Neal, and daughter-in-law, Ollie.
Martha was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Neal Godwin, Sr.; her parents; daughter Barbara Godwin Deforrest; grandson David Deforrest; brothers August, Martin and Anton Merka; sisters Olga Eubanks, Janie Vincent and Mary Dobrovolny.
She is survived by one son, Neal Godwin, Jr., and wife, Ollie of Nashville, Ark.; grandsons Byron and Steven Godwin; great-grandchildren Grayson and Chloe Godwin all of Ft Worth, Texas; and one sister, Josephine Merka Griswold of Nashville, Ark., and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Martha was a homemaker, a loving wife and mother, and friend to many in Bryan, Texas. She was an active member of Northview Baptist Church in Bryan until she was no longer able to live alone.
A private graveside burial will be held in Bryan, Texas, the date of which is yet to be determined.
