Scrapperettes fall in 4A semifinals

MENA – The season ended for the Nashville Scrapperettes Saturday afternoon in the semifinals of the state Class 4A softball tournament at Mena.

The host team, Mena’s Lady Bearcats, came from behind to defeat Nashville 3-2. Mena will play Pocahontas Friday at 5:30 p.m. for the state championship.

Nashville took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the Lady Bearcats tied the contest at 1-1 in the bottom of the inning.

The Scrapperettes took a 2-1 lead in the top of the seventh, but Mena came back late for the 3-2 win.

Kaylea Carver scored both Scrapperette runs against the Lady Bearcats.

Madi Miller and Julianne Futrell had 1 RBI each.

Miller pitched 6 innings, facing 27 batters and striking out 3.

Anna Kesterson finished the game, facing 3 Lady Bearcat batters.

Westside

The Scrapperettes opened the state tournament May 12 with a 9-1 win over Jonesboro Westside.

Miller recorded 3 scores, including 2 home runs. Brookelyen Cox added 2. Other Scrapperette runs came from Carver, Futrell, Alyssa Harrison and Maddison Horton.

Kesterson pitched a 7-inning no-hitter.

Carver and Miller posted 3 RBIs each; Harrison added 2, and Kendall Kirchhoff had 1.

Dardanelle

The Scrapperettes shut out Dardanelle 6-0 May 13 in the state quarterfinals.

Cox scored twice against the Lady Sand Lizards. Other runs came from Carver, Futrell, Bailey Dougan and Horton.

Kesterson pitched 5 innings and faced 18 batters with 2 strikeouts. She allowed 2 hits.

Brittany Hilliard pitched the last 2 innings, facing 6 batters and striking out 3.
