Officers remain on administrative leave

    Mount Ida – Two Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office deputies remain on administrative leave as the Arkansas State Police review evidence regarding their part in an officer involved shooting that led to the death of a suspect.
    According to a release issued by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office the two deputies, who not been identified, were involved in an officer involved shooting March 4. Neither officer was injured in the incident, but the suspect was transported to the hospital after the incident occurred.
    The suspect, identified as John A. Chamberlain of Pencil Bluff, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
    No details have been given regarding the incident and Sheriff David White stated that the investigation has been turned over to the Arkansas State Police.
    Arkansas State Police Information Officer Bill Sadler stated that the role of the Arkansas State Police in this situation it to prepare an investigative file relating to the officer involved shooting. The case file will be submitted to the prosecuting attorney to determine if the use of deadly force by a law enforcement officer was consistent with Arkansas laws.
