Lions brush past Indians 6-2 in season opener

MOUNT IDA – The Mount Ida Lions opened the 2016 baseball season with a hard fought 6-2 victory over the Caddo Hills Indians.
Cody Robertson got the start for Mount Ida and recorded the win. He gave up two hits and did not allow a run while recording eight strikeouts and two base on balls. Cade Jackson earned the save with two innings of work, giving up two hits and two runs. He recorded three base on balls and six strike outs.
Gaven Caldwell was the starter for Caddo Hills, pitching all six innings in the loss. He gave up six hits and six runs while recording three base on balls, three strike outs and two hit batsmen.
Caddo Hills struggled offensively in the early innings, gaining only one base runner in the first three innings when Caldwell drew a walk in the first inning. Five of the first nine Inidan outs were strike outs pitched by Robertson.
MI v CH baseball 5 webMount Ida stepped to the plate in the first inning and scored five runs, but would not score again until the fifth inning.
Wilson led off the first inning with a single, followed by Jackson with a double, which scored Wilson. Robertson drew a walk and Johnathan Lagrange drove he and Jackson in with a single. Hayden Bishop hit a double, scoring Lagrange. Bishop would score on a sacrifice fly by Austin McAdoo.
Cade Jackson scored the final run of the game after reaching base on a double.
Cade Jackson led the team from the plate with two doubles, two runs and a base on balls. Wilson had a hit and a run, followed by Cody Robertson with a hit, a run, and hit batsman and a base on balls. Johnathan Lagrange had a hit, a run and a base on balls. Hayden Bishop had one hit and one run. Jorge Lopez reached base after being hit by a pitch.
Colton Cowart lead the Indians from the plate with one hit, one run and a walk. Dakota Welch scored a run and reached base on a walk. Jered McKellar, Devan Deaton and Jesse Hollifield each had a hit. Gaven Caldwell and Dakota Welch each drew a walk and Nick Avila drew two walks.
