Dierks holds off Nashville for 3-2 win

The bases were loaded with Scrappers in the bottom of the seventh inning, but Dierks Outlaw pitcher Lane Woodruff was able to strike out the last batter and secure a 3-2 win over Nashville Monday evening at Wilson Park.

Woodruff was one of three pitchers Coach Stephen Sprick threw at the Scrappers. Zane Cox started the game, giving up 1 run, 3 hits, striking out 2 and walking 4. Up next was Tyler Kesterson, who lasted on the mound long enough to walk 2 batters. Woodruff closed out the game, giving up 2 hits and 1 run, striking out 7 and walking 2.

Tyler Hanson worked the mound for the Scrappers, allowing 6 hits, 3 runs, striking out 8 and walking 3. Chris Willard came on in relief, giving up 2 hits, no runs and striking out 2 and walking 1.

The Dierks hitters included Trendon McKinney with 3 hits and 1 RBI, Cox with 1 hit and 1 RBI, Jarret Fox with 1 hit and 1 RBI and Caleb Adams and Colton Strode with 1 hit each.

Nashville was led at the plate by Zach Jamison and Preston Pope with 2 hits each and Hanson and Jordan Williams with 1 hit each.

Dierks plated 2 runs in the first inning and added another in the third. Nashville’s scoring did not start until the fourth inning with 1 followed by 1 more in the bottom of the seventh.

Lady Outlaws win over Texarkana

The Dierks Lady Outlaws have went 1-2 in the last week, including a 9-3 loss to the Horatio Lady Lions, a 7-4 loss to Avery, Texas and a 7-0 win over Texarkana in the Ashdown tournament.

In the loss to Horatio, Alexis Simmons and Delaney Eckert worked the mound. Simmons threw for 5 innings and allowed 11 hits, 8 runs and struck out 3 and walked 1. Eckert closed out the game and allowed no hits and 1 run and struck out 3 and walked 3.

The Lady Outlaws collected 10 hits with Simmons leading the way with 3 hits and 1 RBI. Other Lady Outlaw hitters included Miranda Mack with 2 and Khylia Hill, Eckert, Madison Burgess, Blair Garner and Alyssa Ward with 1 hit each.

In tournament loss to Avery, Burgess led the Lady Outlaw hitting with 2 hits and 2 scored runs.

In the tournament win over Texarkana, Eckert limited Texarkana to 2 hits and no runs. Eckert also led at the plate with 2 hits and 3 RBIs. The Lady Outlaws had a total of 8 hits. Other hits came from the bats of Simmons, Hill, Ward, Garner, Burgess and Meagan Brecheisen.

Murfreesboro Rattlers move to 3-2

The Rattlers split a double-header Monday night with Centerpoint and Horatio, games moved up due to the rainy forecast.

The Rattlers beat Centerpoint, 6-1, but followed with an extra-inning loss to the Horatio Lions, 12-11.

Sutton Balch went the distance on the mound for the Rattlers against Centerpoint, allowing 1 run, 6 hits, striking out 5 and walking 3.

The Rattlers collected 7 hits, led by Chris Odom with 2 hits including a home run and 3 RBIs. Other Rattler hitters included Ryan Roberts, Tyler Gilbert, Adam Bailey, Jarrett Pitchford and Daniel Myers.

The Rattlers had 1 error in the field while Centerpoint committed no errors.

In the loss to Horatio, the Rattlers threw three pitchers at the Lions, including Jared Lingo, Jack Stuard, Logan Wilcher and Gilbert.

Murfreesboro had 13 hits. Gilbert led at the plate with 4 hits, including a home run and 4 RBIs. Other hitters included Roberts with 2 and 1 RBI, Odom with 1 hit, Bailey with 1 hit and 1 RBI, Pitchford with 1 hit and 3 RBIs, Wilcher with 2 hits and 2 RBIs and Myers and J.C. Motley with 1 hit each.

Horatio had 12 hits and no errors in the field. The Rattlers had six errors in the field.

Prior to Monday night’s double-header, the Rattlers beat the Fouke Panthers, 5-4, on March 3 and also edged out the De Queen Leopards, 10-9, on March 4.

The Rattlers’ record now stands are 3-2.

Lady Rattlers get first win of season

The Murfreesboro Lady Rattlers got their first win of the season during the Ashdown tournament. The Lady Rattlers posted a 13-4 win over Waldron.

Murfreesboro had 15 hits and were led at the plate by Hannah Kuykendall, who had 3 hits and 4 RBIs. Katlyne Smith added 3 hits and 1 RBI followed by Hannah Cox with 2 hits and 2 RBIs, Ande Terrell with 2 hits and 1 RBI and Brady Hignight with 2 hits. Also collecting hits were Anna Corbitt and Megan Cullen.

Hignight worked the mound for the Lady Rattlers, allowing just 4 runs, 4 hits and striking out 3 and walking 4.

The Lady Rattlers did not fare as well against the Horatio Lady Lions in the Ashdown tournament the same day, dropping the game, 17-6.

Murfreesboro also dropped their game Monday against Cossatot River, 4-2.

In  Monday’s game, Murfreesboro was led at the plate by Smith with 3 hits and 1 RBI. Hignight and Cox each had 2 hits while Kuykendall, Morgan White and Terrell each collected 1 hit.

Hignight was again on the mound for the Lady Rattlers, allowing 2 runs, 6 hits and striking out 2 and walking 6.
