Caddo Hills opened the first round of the 1A State Tournament and faced off against perennial powerhouse Kingston and a sluggish first quarter cost the Lady Indians. Kingston opened the game on a 10-0 run but Caddo Hills got on the board with 3:37 left in the first when Sara Bershers made a block on the defensive end then took the loose ball coast to coast for the lay in. Kingston countered with a bucket to negate the Caddo score but Lilli Hunt drove the lane, pivoted a full 360 degrees, then hit the short jumper. Kingston capped the first quarter off with seven unanswered to take a 19-4 lead after one.
Kingston kept adding to their lead in the second, racing out to a 31-9 lead before the Lady Indians closed the first half on an 8-0 spurt which was buoyed by Jordan Powell’s trey from the right wing, setting the half time score at 17-31 in favor of Kingston.
Caddo worked on trimming the deficit in the third and chopped four points off the gap to start the third quarter with Bershers hitting a left handed jumper off the left side and Haley Ortiz muscling a rebound away from a Yellow Jacket and hitting the bucket. Caddo Hills close the gap down to 28-39 midway through the third quarter but Kingston kept pace from there on, eventually upping their lead to 47-32 at the end of the third quarter.
Caddo Hills moved back to within eleven points when Scarlett Beggs banked home a trey and Bershers hit the teardrop runner from the lane, making it a 37-48 game. Kinston hit for six unanswered and pull away for the 59-47 win.
Bershers led the Lady Indians with 11 points.
