Pafford sentenced on rape, sexual assault charges

    HOPE- Former Hope businessman James Pafford has been sentenced. Last week, James Carl Pafford age 71, of Hope, was found guilty of two counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault in Hempstead County Circuit Court. He has been sentenced to 25 years for each of the two counts of rape and five years for each count of sexual assault – to run consecutively. Pafford will have to serve 35 years before he is eligible for parole. During sentencing, he also asked to be released on bail while his attorney filed an appeal. Judge Duncan Culpepper denied that request.
