HCSO issues statement on accidental death of child

NASHVILLE – The Howard County Sheriff’s Dispatch received a 9-1-1 call of EMS needed at a residence on Mission Drive, Nashville,. at 8:18 p.m. on Jan. 26. The call, concerning emergency assistance needed for a 4-year-old injured from a dresser and television falling on her in her bedroom, was transferred to the ambulance service. Howard County Deputy Dustin Wakefield also responded to the call.
Ella’s mother, Alicia Phillips told EMS at the scene that Ella was in her bed watching television when Alicia heard a “crash” come from Ella’s room. When Alicia ran into the bedroom she found a large, older style television and a dresser that the television was setting on had fallen on top of Ella’s head and chest. Ella was transported by ambulance to Howard Memorial Hospital where she was met by air ambulance and transferred to a Little Rock hospital.
The Pulaski County Coroner’s Office contacted Deputy Wakefield at several hours later and told him that 4-year -old, Ella was pronounced dead by their office shortly before midnight as a result of her injuries.
“This incident is very tragic and the Howard County Sheriff’s Office offers our prayers to the Ella’s family.”
