Pike County Judge Dewight Mack and Murfreesboro Mayor Rodney Fagan have joined with the Murfreesboro Chamber of Commerce in declaring Tuesday, Jan. 26 as “Law Enforcement Appreciation Day” in Pike County.

A special program to honor area law enforcement and fire department personnel will be held at the South Pike County School’s Activity Room Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. “Everyone is invited to attend and show your appreciation by wearing blue on this day,” said Jane Fugitt, MCC secretary.

The chamber will also host a dinner for law enforcement and fire department personnel that night at Em’s Cafe in Murfreesboro.

Judge Mack and Mayor Fagan, flanked by Fugitt and MCC President Ricky Branch, signed a proclamation last Friday designating the special day. The proclamation is as follows:

“Whereas: Murfreesboro and Pike County are privileged to have many fine men and women in our law enforcement dedicated to protecting our city and county. Without a doubt, the people of Murfreesboro and Pike County are grateful to our law enforcement for their constant protection and service; and

“Whereas: Murfreesboro and Pike County law enforcement goes to great lengths to insure that we feel protected in our homes, workplaces and schools; and

“Whereas: It is fitting and right to recognize the many sacrifices they have made on our behalf and to remember with gratitude these men and women standing shoulder to shoulder in defense of peace, order and justice; and

“Whereas: It should be recognized that these brave men and women face the threat of danger every day on our behalf, and for that alone they deserve our thanks; and

“Whereas: While we thank our law enforcement for their service to our city, it is also that we remember those brave men and women across the State of Arkansas that serve and/or have fallen in the line of duty. The people of the City of Murfreesboro and Pike County will be forever in their debt.

“Whereas: All citizens of Murfreesboro and Pike County, Arkansans and United States citizens should remember our law enforcement for their bravery and heroism and should pay tribute to their faithful service; and

“Whereas: It is important to observe a day in honor and recognition of Murfreesboro and Pike County law enforcement as a way of thanking them for their service, reminding ourselves of their constant protection and as a way to pass on to the next generation the importance of the role that law enforcement plays in a civil society; and

“Now, therefore, I, Rodney Fagan, Mayor of Murfreesboro and I, Dewight Mack, Pike County Judge, by virtue of the authority invested to us by the laws of the State of Arkansas do hereby proclaim January 26, 2016 as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.

Across the city and county we encourage fellow citizens to honor law enforcement for their heroic actions and selfless sacrifice.”
