Ruth Stewart Cover pictureRuth (Baby Ruth) Young Atkins Stewart was born on August 2, 1945 in Ozan, Arkansas to the late Isaiah and Lena Young. She departed this life on December 14, 2015. She was married to James (J.D) Atkins on March 25,1966; to this union 8 children were born; one who preceded her in death. She was a devoted wife and mother. On July 3, 2002, her husband of 36 years passed away. On September 1, 2007, she was married again to Henry Stewart, a retiree from California. Ruth was a member of Southside C.O.G.I.C in Clow, AR, from a very early age until 1989, when the church moved to Power House #1 COGIC in Ozan. She was a faithful member until her death. She served as assistant secretary, then secretary, Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir. Power House will not be the same. Everyone loved Mother Stewart and Maw Maw. Besides her tremendous love for fishing, Mother Stewart loved her job at Headstart. She worked there for 8 years and lately was a substitute teacher. She loved all her babies, as well as everyone she came in contact with. Mother Stewart also greatly loved the Lord. Heaven has gained an amazing, loving angel.
Cherishing precious memories are her husband, Mr. Henry Stewart of the home, Nashville; seven children, four girls, Alfreda Christopher of Hope, Gwendolyn Wilson (Anthony) of Mineral Springs, Nikita May (Anthony) of Hot Springs, and Brigette Atkins (Keimane) of Dallas, Texas, three boys, Derrick Atkins of Clow, James K. Atkins (Marlyn) of Nashville, and Marcus Atkins of Clow; two great-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, two of whom she raised from birth until well in school; one special daughter, Hope Stewart of Dallas, Texas, she also raised from five months to five years old; then came two special grands; three sisters, Mae Ola Thompson of Ogden, Rubbie Peck of Clow and Ella Steel of San Diego, California; four brothers, Benjamin Young (Azelean) and James Young (Dianna), all of Flint, Michigan, and Charles Young of Pamona, California; brother, Robert Young went home to be with the Lord October 2014, leaving sister-in-law, Ruthell Young of Ozan; a special sister, British Jean Turner (Thomas) of Texarkana; many nieces, nephews, friends, sisters and brothers in Christ all whom will miss her dearly. Visitation will be held 10:30 am-2:00 pm Saturday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Power House Church of God in Christ in Ozan. Burial will be at Cummings Cemetery in Clow.
