Mount Ida juniors earn wins at Benton Harmony Grove

BENTON – The Mount Ida Junior Lady Lions and Junior Lions came away from Benton with a pair of wins last week, while the Lady Lions fell short of their first win.
The Junior Lady Lions kicked off the night of basketball action with a 34-19 victory.
Julie Burke led the junior girls with 14 points, followed by Madison Smith and Braelynne Bates with seven each. Addison Black scored four and Kendall Jones scored two.
The Junior Lady Lions eased out to a 10-9 lead in the first period and outscored Benton 8-4 in the second to take an 18-13 lead at the half.
They outscored Benton 10-4 in the third and6-2 in the fourth to win the game by 15.
The Junior Lions picked up where the junior girls left off, earning a 44-31 victory over the Junior Cardinals.
Mount Ida eased out to a 9-8 lead and went on a 13-8 run in the second to take a 22-16 halftime lead. Benton Harmony Grove tied things up in the third, but the Junior Lions launched a 16-4 run in the fourth to win the game by 13.
Jonathan Lagrange led the Junior Lions with 16 points, followed by Ethan Winkley with 10. Cade Jackson scored eight, Jorge Lopez scored six and Gage Dyer scored two. Drew Allen and Fisher Bissell each scored one.
Benton Harmony Grove was able to avoid a sweep  with a win in the senior girls game.
The Lady Cardinals jumped out to a 12-8 lead in the first and took a 23-17 lead into the half. They outscored Mount Ida 29-26 in the second half to win the game 52-43.
Lauren Wingfield led the Lady Lions with 12 points. Patty Anne Whisenhunt scored six, Jordan Farmer scored five, Mattie Fiorello scored three and Kendra Burke scored two.
