turnerJoe Garner Turner, age 76 of Nashville, Arkansas, formerly of Dierks, Arkansas, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 at his home in Nashville. He was born April 11, 1939 in New Hope, Arkansas to Elton Odell and Opal Mae Martin Turner.
He had worked for Dierks Lumber Company and for the United States Postal Service until his retirement. He was a faithful member of the Dierks Church of Christ; he taught many classes and preached on many occasions. He was also the church treasurer and was in charge of ordering all of the literature. Later he attended the Ashdown and Sunset congregations. He was a dedicated caregiver to his wife for many years. Family was very important to him, being a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was an avid book and record collector. He taught himself to play the guitar, and enjoyed playing music with his friends and entertaining residents at the local nursing homes.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant son, Ronnie Steven Turner.
He is survived by the love of his life for over 57 years, his wife Dora Carlene Brewer Turner of Nashville; two children, Phillip and wife Linda Turner of Nashville and Karen Scott of Arlington, Texas; two brothers, Don and wife Margaret Turner of Arkadelphia and Glen and wife Frankie Turner of Fort Smith; one sister, Sue Ann and husband Gene Fulcher of Fayetteville; four grandchildren, Matthew and wife Laura Turner, Lydia and husband Brad Hardin, Ethan Turner, and Michael Scott; three great grandchildren, Audrey Turner, Henley Turner, and Silas Hardin; and a large host of other family and friends too numerous to name.
Services will be Sunday, December 13, 2015 at 3:00 pm at Dierks Church of Christ with James McRae and David Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Dierks Cemetery under the direction of Nashville Funeral Home. The family will receive friends at Nashville Funeral Home on Sunday from 1:00 to 2:00 pm prior to the service.
