According to Murfreesboro Fire Chief Alan Walls, the department received a call at 4:50 a.m. Saturday morning to respond to individuals trapped in a teepee at Diamond John’s Riverside Retreat located by Terrell’s Access on Roy Road outside of Murfreesboro.
The initial plan was for the IMG_9992Department to launch their River Rescue Boat at the ramp located at Terrell’s Access, but the river was already above the ramp. The boat was launched directly behind the retreat where it made two successful trips that rescued all five individuals.
“The water came up too fast for them to get to the bank,” said Walls. The rescue was successfully completed in approximately an hour of time.
According to measurements taken by the Crater of Diamonds State Park, the area received 7.9 inches of rain from Thursday evening through Monday morning. The heavy and steady rainfall caused flash flooding throughout the area leading to the closures of Roy Road and a section of Highway 195 near the Blue Mailbox.
