Montgomery County candidates set with end of filing period

    MONTGOMERY COUNTY – With the filing period over for the upcoming election cycle 18 local residents have registered their intention to run for one of 17 offices in Montgomery County.
    The parties are evenly represented with eight people filing as Democrat and eight filing as Republican. There are two independents in the upcoming race.
    Changes are coming to some of the county offices with one Justice of the Peace not seeking reelection and the positions of coroner and surveyor to be filled by election instead of appointment. The coroner and surveyor positions have been vacant in recent elections and were filled by appointment by the quorum court.
    County Assessor Tammy McCarter has also announced her intention to run as a Republican this election cycle. She has ran as a Democrat in past elections.
    One race is contested with Jeffery Blansett of Oden and Reith Stanley of Mount Ida both running for the county coroner position. They will face off in the Republican primary.
