The Arkansas State Police have acknowledged they are investigating a reported assault upon Dierks Mayor Terry Mounts last week.

Mayor Mounts declined to give many details about the incident which occurred Monday, Nov. 9, citing the ASP investigation. He said he suffered a slight concussion and had visited an emergency room. He was at work early Tuesday morning answering phone calls at city hall.

Last Friday ASP criminal investigator Hayes McWhirter said he was just coming off vacation and would begin his investigation on Monday. Howard County Sheriff Bryan McJunkins said Monday that the incident was being investigated by Dierks City Police and that he had no reports on the incident.

Dierks Police Chief Brian White was hunting and was unavailable for comment.

The mayor was reportedly at his residence when he was assaulted. No charges have been filed and no one has been jailed in connection with the incident.
