Mr. Dan Douglas Bohannon, age 77, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas, died Monday, August 24, 2015, in the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center, Shreveport, Louisiana. He was born to Carl Claude and Hazel Leona Haskett Bohannon in Houston, Texas, on August 10, 1938. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U. S. Army. He served as color guard while stationed in Germany for President John F. Kennedy. He was a former employee for KCS, a former machinist, and was a retired truck driver for Southern Refrigerated Transportation Industry He was a member of the Barfield Hunting Club, and enjoyed deer hunting and fishing. Most of all he cherish the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Varda McDonald Bohannon of Horatio; two sons and daughters-in-law, Doug Bohannon and Andrea Jones of Horatio, and Larry and Michelle Bohannon of Gillham; a daughter and son-in-law, LaJuana “Missy” and John Lindsey of Mineral Springs; four grandchildren, Stefany her husband, David Neal of Athens, Gina, and her husband, Corey Mire of Horatio, Hannah Lindsey and Matthew Lindsey, both of Mineral Springs; three great-grandchildren, Emily Neal and Sarah Neal of Athens, and Cooper Bohannon of Horatio; a brother and sister-in-law, Harold and Barbara Bohannon of Lockesburg; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral Services for Mr. Dan Bohannon will held Friday, August 28, 2015 at 2:00 P.M., in the Chandler Funeral Chapel with Rev. George Crumbly officiating. Burial with military rites will follow in the Old Center Cemetery, Horatio, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
