George P. Lawless, age 92, of De Queen, formerly of Bonnerdale, passed away Friday, August 7, 2015.
He was born on November 3, 1922, in Glenwood, the son of George W. Lawless and Lona Marsh Lawless. On January 18, 1941, he was married to Verdene L. Ravan who preceded him in death on June 16, 2000. He was also preceded in death by his parents; and five sisters, Effie McCauley, Evie Lively, Grace Alford Bray, Edith Cox and Mavis Moore.
For many years he and Verdene lived in Smithville, Oklahoma, where he worked as a cattleman and mail carrier. After he retired, they moved back to Bonnerdale, where they lived until Verdene passed away and he decided to move to De Queen to be closer to his son, Darrell. He was a member and attended for many years the Bonnerdale Seventh Day Adventist Church and later when he resided in De Queen the Beacon Hill Seventh Day Adventist Church.
George was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, whose greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, who he dearly loved and cherished. He will truly be missed by all.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Darrell and Patsy Lawless of De Queen; his grandson, Brad Lawless and his wife, Courtney, of Bentonville; his great-grandson, Finn Lawless of Fayetteville; his four great-granddaughters, Zoe Lawless of Fayetteville, Hailey Velasquez, Sydney Velasquez and Aubrey Velasquez, all of Boca Raton, Florida; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and a host of wonderful friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, August 11, 2015, in the Bonnerdale Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery with Pastor Brandon Westgate officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in George’s memory to a charity of your choice.
