“Unanswered Prayers”

Have you ever been to the store and your child wants something so incredibly bad and not be able to give it to them? I was in that situation recently with my grandson, and it made him cry, just tore me up that I couldn’t give it to him at that time.

This made me think of those times I wanted something so bad, and prayed very hard for it, but never received it. Makes me think, could the Lord not give it to me for some reason? Doesn’t He know how much I want that in my life? I am sure He would like to give us our hearts desires, but what our hearts desire is not always what He desires for us, or wants for us. Depends on what we are asking for, in this case my grandson was asking for a toy, but I was asking for something specific to happen in my life.

Psalms 37:4 Take delight in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.

Sure He could give us anything , He owns cattle on a thousand hill tops.

Psalm 50:10 For all the animals of the forest are mine, and I own the cattle on a thousand hills.

But is it what is best for us, do we need that particular thing, or do we just want it? I am sure the Lord does take all that into consideration, and when our heart breaks, so does His.

Luke 7:13 When the Lord saw her, HIS heart went out to her and He said, “Don’t cry.”

Psalm 56:8 You keep track of all my sorrows. You have collected all my tears in
your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book.

Maybe it was not the right time in our life, for this particular thing. I wasn’t able to give that toy to my grandson just that day, but later he would receive it. So in our life as we wish and pray for things and don’t receive them, maybe the timing is just not right. Maybe it is not right for us at all.

I must add to this, you need be careful what you pray for, you just might receive that thing you were wanting, and then not like it. You prayed and prayed for it, then it came and it changed your whole life in a way you weren’t expecting. Then we want to erase that prayer and want it the way it was,” OH Snap! Lord can I please take that back! That’s not what I meant.” I think we have all been there.

I am so glad that I have a Father who watches over me in this way, who loves me enough to touch every detail of my life. He knows what is good for me, even when I don’t. So thankful for unanswered prayers.

By the time I could go back to the store and buy this certain toy for my grandson, he had already forgotten about it. It was a whole new idea by the time he had received it. So maybe what you desire today, is not meant to come till tomorrow (a different season in our life). It just might be a surprise (a blessing) for another time, one you had totally forgotten about.
