Harrison and Mary Gilmer of Murfreesboro are pictured here enjoying ice cream in a special corner of Hawkins Variety Store. It was in this very corner, back when the business was known as Cagle-Hare Drugstore and contained a corner window display, that Harrison saw and later purchased the wedding ring set he used to propose to Mary 66 years ago in 1949. The rings set Harrison back $110. The couple courted for two years, starting when Mary, now 84, was a 10th grader and Harrison, 86, was a senior and were married two weeks after Mary graduated high school. They have two children, three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Leader photo courtesty of Dewayne Gray
