ARKADELPHIA – The Nashville Scrapperettes attended team camp June 9-11 at Ouachita Baptist University.

Coach Ron Alexander said the team is “pretty good right now. We’re not what we should be, but we’re playing hard.”

The Scrapperettes faced two of their toughest challenges of the camp June 10 when the played Hot Springs in the first game of the night and wrapped up the evening against Malvern.

The Hot Springs game was close all the way, with the Lady Trojans taking a 27-24 win on the strength of a couple of late scores. Hot Springs is the defending Class 5A champion.

The Scrapperettes led Malvern through the first half, fell behind briefly in the second and came back for a 27-23 win over the Lady Leopards.

Nashville defeated Malvern twice last season before losing in the District 7-4A tournament. Malvern later won the state Class 4A championship.

Alexander said the OBU camp provided “a look at what we’ve got. It’s always a good time to develop camaraderie for the girls. They work hard and get after it. They’ll be fun to watch.”

The Scrapperettes are off until July 6, including the three Arkansas Activities Association -mandated dead weeks. They will host Thursday night games throughout July in Scrapper Arena.
