NASHVILLE – An attempt to smuggle tobacco to a person awaiting trial in the Howard County jail resulted in the arrest of a Nashville man over the weekend.
According to statements from Howard County jail administrator Jana Tallant, Timothy W. Hartness, 52, brought several items to the jail Saturday evening for Betty Mowry, 45, of Nashville, who is being held on narcotics charges. Jailer Kevin Rodgers, upon receiving the items to be delivered to Mowry, is reported to have noticed something amiss with a hairbrush included with the packet, and disassembled the brush to find what he reported as tobacco.
According to the statement, Rodgers then notified deputy Timmy Floyd of the incident. Hartness was arrested on Sunday evening on a charge of furnishing prohibited articles, which is a felony, and placed in the Howard County jail himself. No bond information was available for Hartness as of press time.
