CONWAY — Dierks High School graduate Joshua Welch will be one of 75 incoming first-year students at the University of Central Arkansas selected to participate in the Norbert O. Schedler Honors College.
The students were selected from a pool of over 250 qualified applicants, of which 120 were selected for intensive full-day interviews on the UCA campus.
“Evidence suggests that the admissions process that selected these students is among the most rigorous in the national honors community,” commented Richard Scott, dean of the Schedler Honors College. “Those who achieved admission into the UCA Honors College should be extremely proud of their accomplishment.”
Honors Scholars receive UCA’s most prestigious scholarship package, reside in a living-learning community in Jefferson W. Farris Honors Hall, and participate in a unique interdisciplinary curriculum with ample opportunities for service learning, project-based education, collaborative work, undergraduate research, and travel or internship support. Honors students may choose any major they wish from the large variety of possibilities at UCA.
The incoming class includes 48 women and 27 men, and it includes six out-of-state students from Texas, New Mexico, Missouri and Louisiana.
In addition, the records of the entire class include:
· 12 valedictorians and salutatorians
· 41 students with an ACT test score of 30 or higher
· An average high school cumulative GPA of 4.163
· An average ACT test score of 29.5
