“ He holds the keys”

This morning, I was given a key. One that belongs to my new home- just a cute little place, suited just for me. It got me thinking about the keys that Jesus gives us when we meet Him for the first time, and how they are for a new home, one not of this world. A home that is made just for us, and I don’t know about you, but I’ll be glad to give up this world for a home far away.

Matthew 16:19 “I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven

I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will
be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven

Keys. What are the keys? Are they secrets to the kingdom of Heaven? The definition of keys is  a. notched and grooved, usually metal implement that is turned to open or close a lock or b. A similar implement or an electronic device used for opening, as per the freedictionary.com. So if a key opens something, then it gives us access. Access to Heaven, and access to earth, or maybe access to something spiritual and something worldly, since the verse does say loosed in heaven, and loosed on earth.

The bible mentions the keys from the beginning to the end,

Isaiah 22:22 I will lay the key of the house of David on his shoulder. He will open, and no one will shut. He will shut, and no one will open.

Revelation 3:7 “To the angel of the assembly in Philadelphia write: “He who is holy, he who is true, he who has the key of David, he who opens and no one can shut, and who shuts and no one opens.

God gave us all the opportunity to have the keys and no one can take them away once we have them.”

Jesus died so we could have the key to Heaven, and no one can take it away once we accept him in our hearts and repent of our sins. I became a believer when I was 13 years old at church camp, but I don’t think I understood it until about 4 years ago, when I totally surrendered my life to Christ. When he found me that night alone and crying, he also gave me the keys, to open up my life spiritually and let go of the key to worldly things.

1 John 4; 4You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Here is to finding your keys,

Heather
