Nashville team finishes fourth at state track meet

scrapper starHEBER SPRINGS – The Nashville Scrappers finished fourth overall at the state championship track meet, held at Heber Springs High School May 5. Pine Bluff Dollarway won the meet with 74 points scored.


Although no Scrapper thinclads managed a first place finish, the school’s 4x800m relay team came close, taking second in their race with an 8:47.09 performance. The team was composed of Chas Scott, Robbie Morphew, Zach Jamison and Jordan Williams.
Nashville also managed notable finishes in the 4x400m and 4x100m relays, earning third place in each with times of 3:34.90 and 44.05, respectively. Jackson Beavert, Warren May, Jalen Jones and Scott made up the 4x400m team, while the 4x100m team was composed of Beavert, Kiawan Wynn, Lee Scroggins and Jones.
When it came to individual events, Ignacio Perez performed best for the Scrappers, taking fourth in the 1600m run with 4:50.47 in addition to a seventh place finish in the 3200m run (11:13.50). Nick Myers also claimed a fourth place ribbon, jumping 12’6” in the pole vault, where teammate Trace Beene managed sixth with a 12’ leap, and Kirby Adcock earned similar placement in the discus with a throw of 119’7”.
The team’s hurdler-in-chief, Austin Gibbs, did the majority of the remaining scoring, earning sixth in the 110m hurdles (17.28) and eighth in the 300m version of the event (43.09), while the team’s efforts were rounded out by Williams’ sixth place finish in the 800m run and Trey Hughes’ eighth place effort in the triple jump.
