Former Arkansas State Senator Alvin Scott Dwiggins 76, of Amity, Arkansas passed away on May 24, 2015 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester , MN. He was born on September 21, 1938 in Arkadelphia to Claudius William and Lillian Scott Dwiggins of Amity. He attended Amity High School and the University of Arkansas where he studied mechanical engineering. He was an inventor holding a patent with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and  a member of the Arkansas Air National Guard from 1960 to 1966.  Being actively engaged in farming most of his life, he was a 3rd generation peach farmer on land that was homesteaded in the late 1800’s.  The Alvin Dwiggins Family was also chosen as Farm Family of the year.  Alvin devoted his life to his family, the farm and public service, having served in the Arkansas State Senate from 1980 -1986.  In 1981, Alvin was named Arkansas Outstanding Freshman Legislator.  He served on numerous committees including: Senate Legislative Affairs and Aging, Senate Revenue and Taxation, Public Transportation, Legislative Joint Audit, Arkansas Southeast and Southwest Legislative Delegation, and an alternate member of Agriculture and Rural Development of the Southern States Legislative Conference , Vice-Chairman of the Senate Education Committee and was selected by the Legislative Council as counsel representative for the fourth Congressional District. Prior to his service in the Arkansas Senate, he served on the Arkansas Advisory Council for Vocational and Technical Education. Alvin also served on the Amity School Board and was a three term board member of South Central Arkansas Electric Cooperative.  Alvin and his family were lifelong Methodists and members of the Amity United Methodist Church.  Alvin was a very loving, caring and devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend.

 He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Riggle Dwiggins; his sons Barry Dwiggins and Chris Dwiggins; and granddaughters Haylea and Hannah Dwiggins. He is also survived by brothers Dr. Claudius William Dwiggins, JR of Bartlesville, OK and David Dwiggins of Arkadelphia, AR.

 Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 28, 2015 at Ruggles-Wilcox  Chapel in Arkadelphia, AR.   Visitation will be at 1:00 PM until service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery in Amity, AR.
