Lockesburg woman, children killed in crash

images (1)MENA – A Lockesburg woman and two juveniles were killed Monday afternoon in a traffic accident on Highway 71.
According to a preliminary fatal crash summary prepared by Arkansas State Trooper Mike D. Thomas, 23 year old Latosha Nicole Leathers and two children of unknown age were pronounced dead at the scene after the 2002 Ford van they were riding in “lost control and entered the southbound lane backwards.” The van was then struck by a 1975 model Peterbuilt.
The driver of the Peterbuilt, 52 year old Marla Gayle Pipes, of Redwater, Texas, was injured in the crash and transported to Mena Medical Hospital for treatment, according to the report.
Thomas wrote that conditions were cloudy and the road was wet at the time of the accident.
